A Place Based Learning approach uses the local community as an integrating context for learning. Barnard educators are working to develop sustainable and rewarding partnerships with our community, The goal of these partnerships is foremost to improve student achievement. At the same time, the partnerships will work to improve the quality and vitality of Barnard’s environment, as well as its social, and economic opportunities. The local resources, energy and skills of our community members and students will focus on local environmental and social issues, which in turn will create exciting and relevant learning opportunities for Barnard Academy students. This approach offers a fundamentally different approach to both environmental education and community development.
