Barnard Academy’s Farm to School program is connected to the Upper Valley Farm to School program run by Pater Allison. This year has been a piloting year of Farm to School for Barnard Academy in many areas.
A group of active parents, working with Farm to School concepts, began a fruit bowl program. Fresh fruit is placed in every classroom, every day.
Another area is the School Community Garden, where students and families have planted seeds and plants that will be harvested for next year’s annual Thanksgiving feast.
The third area was the piloting of the Farm to School community curriculum. Barnard Academy is the main piloting school that has piloted the curriculum in all grades. An energetic group of parents volunteered and came into the individual classrooms, several times throughout the year, to teach about healthy foods, prepare them with the students, and connect the children to local farmers.
